A History:

The band name “Tear Down the Sun” comes from the all-consuming feeling that pulls from every corner of your entire being compelling you to do absolutely anything to take the pain and suffering away from someone who struggles in their life on a daily basis. It originated from a song lyric we once wrote: “I’d tear down the sun to bring you the day…”

In the wake of another band in early 2007, Alex Burhoe on keyboards, Laben Barr playing bass, and Brian Charles on drums decided to regroup, and make bigger, better, harder music. We immediately found Ben Hamel, a local guitar player and musician who shared many of the same influences and David Flores, a recent young war veteran searching for years to find a band, as our front-man. Right away we were writing originals. Andy Harris and his seven-string guitar joined us a few months later to add a metal edge to our writing and further balance out our melodies.

A year later, Alex Burhoe went off to pursue other endeavors, followed by Laben Barr in 2010.  The 2010 line-up then included Bobby Koutelis as our bassist and minus Alex Burhoe and Laben Barr, brought a different dynamic that we feel has a propelled our newer material to a level that we had not yet considered.

In 2012, Ben Hamel left the area, and was replaced with long time friend of the band, and former band-mate of Andy and Brian, Padraig Murphy, an experienced musician and songwriter.  This completed our current line-up, and has sent us into a song writing frenzy due to strong writing chemistry we have together with this line-up, and has really brought the band to a new level.  Each member of the band brings with them their life experiences and has influenced the music and the writing process in such a way that the final product takes on a life of its own and ultimately becomes something much more than just the sum of our combined talents and influences.

Since their start in ’07, Tear Down The Sun has been tearing it up, opening and headlining gigs across the New Hampshire Seacoast, Massachusetts North shore and Portland Maine areas, at venues such as; The Big Easy, The Dover Brickhouse, Milly’s Tavern, Club Texas, SMCC, The Limelight Lounge, 103 Ultra lounge, the University of New Hampshire and more.

Tear Down The Sun has had the privilege of sharing the stage with national acts and New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts bands including; Trust Company, The Dreaming, Mask & Raid, Civil Disturbance, Dead Season, Loki and Prospect Hill, and so many others.

Influences: Coheed & Cambria, Hank Williams, Herb Reed & The Platters, Atreyu, Cake, Iced Earth, Amon Amarth, Jimmy Eat World, Stone Temple Pilots, Breaking Benjamin, Thrice, the Foo Fighters and so much more from all genres of music.
